Jangle Records Launch

19 days and 22 hours. That is the time to go before the Jangle Records Launch. Even though it may seem far away in so many ways it is beginning to sneak up on me.

THANKFULLY! I have a lot of people supporting me :). For one Jangle's sponsor have been a huge help. CJ's Cafe, Organic Garage, Garden Gate Farms and Cupid's Gourmet Cupcakes have all been kind enough to provide myself and the Jangle family with delicious food for the event which definitely makes my job a lot easier.

Theres still however so much to do! Luckily the tasks at hand could not be more enjoyable. I am currently writing the soundtrack for the Jangle Records Short Film and doing some more filming for the educational film. It's tough but i wouldn't want to be doing anything else

So heres to the launch and wishing for the best! <3

Lucky

Things have been getting insane lately. I honestly did not think they could get really THAT much busier but, life surprises you sometimes.

Most surprises (at least in my experience) turn out to be positive in the long run, however there were a couple this week that i wasn't too thrilled about. They mainly circulated around choosing a venue for the Jangle Records upcoming launch party. This was harder than i had ever anticipated and in the end the whole situation turned into quite a few venues falling through on me unfortunately.

On top of this scheduling had become a nightmare. This past while turned out a lot of meeting cancellations and a lot of time restrictions. Add a lil personal drama into the mix and you have got one tired folk musician on your hands.

Now the name of this post is "Lucky" and although it dosn't sound like it from the first part i swear i must have clovers in my pockets.

Finally after everything i found the most fabulous venue for the launch party in Oakville called the Dunn Street Art Gallery. It sounds ridiculous but the floors are incredible! It is just an amazing space compromised of three levels and owned by the most wonderful ex ballerina who chatted with me about everything from Leonard Cohen to Deconstructed Sushi.

So there was my first streak of luck.

After the venue booking i was ready for a rest but instead got a message from Michael Howie of Oakville Today who has asked me to work as a columnist! Needless to say i was so thrilled. Since i was a little kid i have had eclectic career tastes and wanted to be everything from a journalst to archeologist and i now i have been given the opportunity to do the latter of the two.

Theres lucky streak number two.

Then as the product of much planning and good fortune Follow the Floodlights signed as the second artist to my record label Jangle Records. Their music/info is now avaible on our site!

That was lucky streak number three.

Finally my last streak of luck came from Michael Howie being too nice to me again by giving Follow the Floodlights and myself a press releases in this weeks upcoming paper!

So its official i definately have clovers in my pockets. Now if i wasn't spoiled enough i bought myself love in the form of a beautiful little Orange Amp which sounds stunning and rich.

Now although i could feel a little guilty from having all this fortune bestowed upon me i figure its all to compensate from the melancholy that will come from the summer ending.

I will definatley miss the sunshine and warm nights but i would say we had a good run while it lasted :)

1 Month and 21 Days Later

So to say i have been lax on my blogging duties would be kind.
Truth be told, things have been beyond busy since my last post.

Where to start...

Well my last post talked about my article/interview with Scott Stewart from Oakville Today and from that experience i have gained so much more than i originally expected. Firstly i was lucky enough to receive great comments from the interview and if that wasn't enough an elderly woman by the name of Lydia decided to contact the paper after seeing my article to (if you can believe it) give me her late husband's record collection.

The collection of vinyls as well as warm welcome i received from Lydia is the best accolade i ever could receive for my music.

As my rain of good luck continued, on August 8 i signed my first artist (Russell Horton) to my record label Jangle Records at a small show hosted at CJ's Cafe in Bronte. Jangle Records now has its official website and fan page fully operating as well as merchandise available! Which includes some lovely comfortable v-necks if i do say so myself ;)

Finally to top off my time away from blogging, in a bit of a full circle way, Scott Stewart helped myself and Jangle Records out once again with 2 more articles about Russell Horton and signing to the label!

Things are getting exciting :) I could not be working with more talented or more interesting individuals and it feels like my job is getting easier and easier everyday.

Oakville Today

My interview with Scot Stewart from Oakville Today that i had the pleasure of doing last week came out yesterday. I can gratefully say it was on the front page of the Arts and Entertainment section featuring a lovely picture by Nathan Ebel and Louise McCulloch.

I really cannot express how happy and thankful i am for the exposure. Not only was this my first local print interview but the comments made in the interview by Scot were beyond generous and i look forward to working with him in the future.

The rest of my day was filled up with working on setting up the Jangle Records artist exclusive studio, attending a mentor meeting hosted by the Halton Region who gave me the grant for my record label and finally with taking a bit of a plunge and adjusting my image by chopping off some of my hair :).

Overall today turned out to be pretty fab.

Three for the Price of One

So, this week has turned out to be kind of crazy.

First on Wednesday i had my performance at the Toronto Independent Music Awards Best of Live Showcase. I was notified that i was nominated and was judged at the event on my performance based on the musicality, originality, variety, energy and of course the ever important crowd response.

The performance was at The Central down on Markham in Toronto. The beautiful weather made it unbearably hot but the whole performance was really great and everyone there was extremely supportive. After i got the chance to hang with some dear friends and do a bit of party attending to keep the adrenaline going.

Thursday after some much needed sleep i went to my first interview with Oakville Today. The interviewer was named Scot Stewart and was incredibly interesting and regalled me with storires from visiting The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to playing foos ball with Depeche Mode.

Friday was my final Interview of the Week with Oakville Beaver, Tina Depko and photographer Liesa Kortman. After taking some pics in my vinyl room we got down to business and finished up the profile piece in record time.

Finally to finish up my week i got to pick up the lovely organic soundproofing for the recording studio for my record label Jangle Records.

Needless to say i think i'll sleep and follow up with a few to many Starbucks trips.

Junior's Cave

Recently i did an interview with Junior's Cave.

Junior's Cave is an online magazine that is based out of Georgia.

http://www.juniorscave.com/ElyseSimpson.html

The interview talks a little about my favorite venues to play at, my influences and where I'm hopefully heading. It also included some fab photography by Nathan Ebel and Louise McCulloch and some wonderfully nice comments by Junior's Cave :)

So to everyone please give it a read and let me know what you think via comment or e-mail!

Irish Supporters' Club

Last night i played a show at The Irish Supporters' Club in Mississauga.

It was a nice enough venue and had a pub like feeling going on.
There was a decent turnout but not many people seemed really into the whole folk thing lol so it wasn't the greatest environment for me.

I did however have a lovely late dinner afterwards with some mates and was told by the promoter that alot of people had acutally enjoyed my set to my surprise so i can't complain :)

1,000 Dollars

Today i went to a awards banquet for the entries of The 2009 Halton Region Business Plan Compeition. I had submitted the business plan for the record label i'm opening, Jangle Records and to my surprise and happiness, i won!

I received 1,000 dollars as well as some little cute trinkets such as Starbucks' cards to feed my horrible addiction.

I'm going to put the money towards stuff for the Jangle Records' recording studio or i might buy myself a pretty little wah wah pedal....oh the possibilities :)

Purge Magazine

Today i completed part two of my interview with Danya Maclean from Purge Magazine.

Part one took place last friday but was cut short due to prior commitments. Since we're both busy people we were forced to reschedule part two of the interview until today, although this was extremely difficult since we were anxious to continue!

Purge Magazine is a youth run magazine distributed throughout the GTA.

The issue with my interview will go to print sometime this summer and will be availible for free!

Danya is a close friend of mine and a brilliant writer so doing the interview was an absolute blast.

Not to mention, we were able to do the whole thing outside in the beautiful sunshine with The Red Hot Chili Peppers playing in the background so who could ask for more? :)

Welcome!

Hey everbody

welcome to my blog!

This is where i'll be letting everyone know about my upcoming shows, past performances, interviews, photoshoots and everything else musically related lol
