So after searching on the web i found news of possibly the oddest mashup that i've heard about. The result is Jaydiohead. Yes the powerhouse rapper and alternative royalty have been combined by NYC DJ and producer Max Tannone to create a mix of Radiohead's singles, albums and b-sides with a cappella tracks recorded by Jay-Z.

Track combinations include...........
"Moment of Clarity" (Jay-Z) + "Optimistic" (Radiohead) = "Optimistic Moment"
"I Pray" (Jay-Z) + "I Might Be Wrong" (Radiohead) = "Wrong Prayer"
"Roc Boys (And the Winner is.....)" (Jay-Z) + "Airbag"(Radiohead) = "Air Roc"
My favourites are No Karma, Fall in Step and Dirt off Your Android. All are based off some of my favourite Radiohead songs AND fill my guilty need for Jay-Z.
This album really is the best of both worlds. For anybody who has popped a Jay-Z album in their car and felt way too aggressive for their own good or put in a Radiohead album and immediately felt like were the awful epitome of "indie" there is now a nice in-between.
Now you can slide this album into the CD player roll down the windows and show off your metaphorical skinny jeans and brass knuckles.
Personally i'm happy i now have an album that i can take to parties that includes Radiohead but is still danceable.
SO still on the right track with the free downloads :) Not only is this a great way to remind people of 2 established artists that are around but also introduces people to a lesser known NYC DJ to look out for in the future.

Alright...this has got to be the most unqiue combination of genres that's been brought to my attention. I've listened to Jay-Z's mix with Linkin Park purely because of Linkin Park. However I found that I got bored of it fairly quickly. Rap mixed with rap-rock didn't really appeal to me. Regardless, rap isn't one of my favourite styles but I noticed I couldn't do what I often end up doing when I listen to a new album. A lot of the time I listen to the first song all the way and then end up listening to portions of the ones after and skipping to the next before it's over. I couldn't do that with this one...AND IT HAS RAP, I'M NOT A RAP GUY!!
ReplyDeleteMy favourites off this were 99 Anthems, Dirt Off Your Android, Lucifer's Jigsaw and Change Order.
99 Problems and Dirt Off Your Shoulder I've heard before and the other two I looked up Jay Z's songs. 99 Problems I'd have to say would be the only one I was ever slightly drawn to because of the semi-hardcore sound. This new version was so much easier for me to listen to. I love the beat and background base riff along with the various other dj effects. The subtle audio of a siren and low hum also give me a better "music from the streets" vibe than the original version. By low hum i mean the sound that's heard at 0:05.
Dirt Off Your Android is so cool. From the smooth and relaxed way it starts off, wah and clear acoustic guitar with a nice beat, I was NOT expecting the chorus to sound the way it did. I feel like the chorus compliments the lyrics better than the original score does. The song feels like it's saying to just brush off your problems and pick yourself up. Assuming that's what it means, the music flows with it; like you've done that and you feel triumphant in doing so.
Change Order and Lucifer's Jigsaw I like for the new sound they've been given because of this mash up.
The smooth acoustics of Change Order make listening to this song, simply put...nice. I feel like the song is a bit of a balancing act; the lyrics sounding so hardcore, serious, and the music mellowing it out. There are those songs where the lyrics accompanied by similar feeling music draw out a certain emotion. This song pretty much keeps you calm.
Lucifer's Jigsaw has a nice soft beginning, again, quickly into a upbeat, fast tempo rythme I wasn't expecting. This one I could see my way clear to "attempting" to dance to. It has one of the beats you cannot resist bobbing your head and moving your feet in syncronous to the music.
So glad to hear you like it! I agree this album is definitely one you can listen to from beginning to end plus the added bonus of the encore makes it even better!
ReplyDeletei completely agree about Lucifer's Jigsaw i was already a fan of the Radiohead song used in the mashup and would recommend listening to it if you haven't already heard it. I would also recommend looking up the Radiohead song used in Reckoner's Encore. As much as i enjoyed all the mashups in the case of Reckoner's Encore i feel the original by Radiohead is a better overall package.
